Yr. Weekend, Pt. 1: Canned Acoustica VI + The Literary Greats + Pale + A Sundae Drive + More

It’s honestly a little bit quiet tonight — Friday, September 14th — at least on the shows front, but what’s out there is definitely still awesome. Gotta keep it brief today, so here we go…

Lost in the Sun: Surviving Summerfest 2012, Day One (At Long Last…)

I went in without a plan. It was stupid, in retrospect, but that’s how it happened. After meticulously plotting out who I was going to see and when for the past three installments of Free Press Summerfest, this year…

Yr. (Belated) Weekend: St. Patty’s at Fitz + Southern Backtones + Andrew W.K. + Dana Buoy (MP3!) + Emmure + More

What can I say, y’all? It’s been a hell of a month over here, and this weekend’s just another to add to the pile…sigh. I’d planned to post this weekend’s writeups, plus a heartfelt post about today’s KTRU Outdoor Show

2011 Houston Music in Photos

I bought a used Nikon D80 in the summer of 2010 and was instantly discouraged by my photos. It took a lot of reading, looking at others’ photos, adjusting my camera, buying new lenses (most of these are taken with a 35mm f/1.8), and messing around to finally get in a photography groove…

Pale CD Release, Tonight at Warehouse Live

Not sure what the heck it is about tonight, but not only is {The Literary Greats}‘ CD release happening, but so is a celebration with longstanding rock dudes {Pale}, who are gearing up to release their second full-length, In the Time of Dangerous Men

Yr. Weekend, Pt. 2: 500 Megatons of Boogie (CD release) + The Jonx + Gram Rabbit + Pale (video preview) + JBM + More

Still working on catching up on the massive piles of email I found waiting for me back home, but that doesn’t mean everybody else out there is resting, no sir. Here’s what sounds cool to me for this evening…

Yr. Weekend, Pt. 2: Linus Pauling Quartet + Golden Cities + Side Arms + Scale The Summit + Dax Riggs + The Bangles + More

Time for the second installment of the weekend’s cool shows, and tonight’s actually more jam-packed, if anything, than last night. Let’s just cut to the chase, eh? Here’s what sounds good to yours truly: ST-37/Linus Pauling Quartet (split-7″ release)/Golden Cities @ Rudyard’s

Yr Weekend, Pt. 2: A dream Asleep (Reviewed!) + Pale + Resonant Interval + PacTour BotB + More

Weekend’s not over yet, obviously, so there’s still stuff to do these next couple of days. First off, though, we’ve got a bunch of new reviews up on the site, including reviews of stuff by Mew, local songwriter Arthur Yoria, Foreign Born, and local heavy-rocking dudes A dream Asleep, who’re having their CD release show […]

Pale

These guys get better every time I see ’em (which is definitely something to hope for, obviously). I saw Pale a good while back up at Emo’s and wasn’t real impressed, and then got to see them a bunch last year (after a couple of severe band changeups), and damn, I was impressed that time…
