Go for the (Silver) Jews, Stay for the Queers (and Independents/Something Fierce/Teenage Kicks/etc.)

Mentioned this one previously, but intrepid writer/energy troubleshooter Nick H. threw over a cool-ass review of The Silver Jews’ latest album, Lookout Mountain, Lookout Sea, so I thought it’d be good to point it out…especially since the band’s actually playing tonight here in town, doing their quasi-indescribable kinda-country, kinda-indie thing over at Walter’s.

They were originally slated to play last night down at The Orange Show, but due to damage caused by — yes, you guessed it — Hurricane Ike, they had to cancel/reschedule for tonight. Still playing with James Jackson Toth (aka Wooden Wand), reportedly, and it’s an early-early-early show, like 6PM, so get your ass over there quick-fast after work to check it out. It ain’t exactly cheap, but as often as Berman & co. come to town (almost never, to my recollection), the $14 charge is probably gonna be worth it. And yes, if you already got tickets to the Orange Show, they’ll be good at Walter’s, instead.

And hey, once you’re at Walter’s, why not stay? After the Jews & Toth clear off, it’s an all-night punk-o-rama (go, Hatetank!), w/headliners The Queers & The Independents and badass-est of the badass local crews Something Fierce and Teenage Kicks (the latter of which we recently did a writeup, btw, located here). It’s gonna rule, however you slice it — get there early for the mellow folkiness, then kick and stomp your post-Ike blues away with the punk.
