Tonight: The 1975 at Bayou Music Center

Okay, so I know there’re actually several very, very cool shows happening tonight, but the absolute top of my list is happening at Bayou Music Center tonight, where ridiculously great Manchester band The 1975 will be rolling through town. Others may disagree, but for my money, the band’s self-titled debut was one of the best damn things I heard all of last year…

Celebrate with A Sundae Drive at Their CD Release, Tonight

Dammit, dammit, dammit. Alright, y’all, here’s the sad truth: I had fully and completely planned on reviewing The Senseless & The Sound, the long-awaited full-length by awesome H-town shoegazers {A Sundae Drive}…and yet, it didn’t happen. sigh

Yr. Weekend, Pt. 1: The Swingin’ Dicks + Funeral Horse + Miami Dolphins + Cop Warmth + Jon Patrick + Adam Bricks + More

Yours truly is still recovering from hopping up and down and screaming like a teenager last night at Fitz for We Were Promised Jetpacks, but if you’ve got a tougher constitution than my old ass, hey, there’s still stuff to do tonight, Friday, November 14th

Tonight: We Were Promised Jetpacks & The Twilight Sad Up at Fitz

And here, folks, is where I will be tonight (specifically, Thursday, November 13th). I’ve been waiting very literally for years now to see/hear Scottish post-punk rockers We Were Promised Jetpacks, and when I saw their name appear on the list of upcoming shows over at Fitzgerald’s, I very nearly went through the damn ceiling in excitement…

Tonight: B L A C K I E, Cities Aviv, & Fat Tony at Notsuoh (for Free!)

Hey, all — short notice show time… This one kinda crept up on me, so I only found out about it today, but I wanted to make a mention of it, at least, since it’s damn cool. Bassman Pep of AR*V is putting this on over at the ever-entertaining bastion of Downtown strangeness, Notsuoh

Saturday: For the Community 8 Takes Over North Downtown

As I noted earlier, there’s a ridiculously large pile of cool stuff happening this weekend, especially tomorrow, Saturday, November 8th, but the biggest by far is the latest installment of For the Community

Yr. (Late) Weekend, Pt. 1: Rocket From The Crypt + Modest Mouse + Tinariwen + The Lotus Effect (Rev’d!) + The Octopus Project + Bastille + More

Gah. Sorry for the lateness, folks — there’s a lot going on tonight (that’d be Friday, November 7th), but yours truly is only now able to take a break from Munchkin Duty, so I’ll have to keep it quick. Here goes…

The Lotus Effect, Totality

Wow; talk about ambition. I knew the four guys in The Lotus Effect had pretty lofty aspirations for their long-awaited full-length album, but I wasn’t real clear what they had in mind, specifically. Now that I’ve heard the full scope of Totality…well, I’m back to “wow,” again…

Coming Up: First Annual Scorpio Party Awesomeness, This Saturday

Alright, people — this coming weekend is going be insane, frankly, and I wanted to point a finger at a particularly cool show that’s going on, so it doesn’t get swallowed up in the giant pile of other Cool Things to Do… See, tomorrow, Saturday, November 8th, happens to be the day o’ birth of Ian Hlavacek, lead guitarist for badass indie-rock band {Jealous Creatures} (whom I love dearly)…

Shellee Coley, Songs Without Bridges

“How much is enough?” That seems to be the question Conroe-dwelling singer/songwriter Shellee Coley’s trying to answer with her latest album, Songs Without Bridges. I mean, you write a song on just a guitar or piano or what-have-you, and maybe you go into a studio and flesh it out with a full band, drums, bass, strings…
