Record Store Day Madness, Today at Cactus, Vinal Edge & Sig’s

UPDATE: Argh. I suck. In my haste to slap something up here about Record Store Day, I totally neglected to mention one of my favorite bastions of music-dom, Sig’s Lagoon. Which is particularly stupid since today they’re having their quasi-annual Swap ‘n Bop (both at Sig’s and at The Pachinko Hut, nearby), with lots of cool stuff for sale, food, and music by The El Orbits, The Umbrella Man, & Psychedelic Sex Panther, on top of the exclusive RSD stuff. Sorry, Sig’s folks — didn’t mean to leave y’all out in the cold…

It may be my imagination, but I swear, it seems like this is less an annual deal and more like an every-four-months deal… But hey, I can’t hate on Record Store Day, esp. since it always means fun stuff (and some cool freebies, too) at Cactus.

And yep, today (Sat., April 17th, that is) is no exception. In addition to all the exclusive stuff they’ll be selling today — see on over here for a comprehensive list — the Cactus crew will have free (I think?) St. Arnold’s on hand, plus a trio of cool-ass musical acts:

Admittedly, I haven’t actually heard Freddie Steady, and I’ve only heard a bit of local supergroup sIngs so far — and what I’ve heard’s been darn good — but I’m a big fan of Grandfather Child‘s raw, full-on slide-guitar blues-rawk. Can’t say enough good things about those guys…

I’d wondered, by the way, if any of the other record stores remaining in this city participate in the Record Store Day thing — I’ve just never seen anything from Sound Exchange, Soundwaves, or Vinal Edge about it. Seemed a little weird to think that nobody but Cactus was part of this thing.

But lo and behold, apparently they are — or, at least, Vinal Edge is. Today’ll be a bit lower-key up there on Veterans Memorial (no bands playing, I don’t think), but they do have a bunch of the RSD exclusive stuff. So if you live in the northern reaches or the crowds at Cactus keep you away, fret not…
