Coming Back Around, Tonight: Scale The Summit(!) + Arthur & Tody + The Goods + More

Okay, so there’s a crap-ass-load of good things going on this weekend (tonight being no exception), but I’m still staggering back to my feet, so I’m going to have to give the quick-fast, mile-high overview. I am behind, behind, behind, folks, and it’s a sad thing. sigh

At any rate, here’s my picks for the evening, from badasseriest to still-badass. First off, I’m really pissed at myself for not finishing the review of the damn thing in time (sorry, y’all), but even without that, take my word for it: Scale The Summit are fucking incredible. They grab hold of the whole Pelican/Red Sparowes/Fucking Champs instrumetal thing, strip it of any remnants of jaded hipster irony, and fly it straight into the sun, smiling serenely all the while. And it’s beautiful, particularly on brand-new album Carving Desert Canyons (review on its way, I swear). They’re going to be freakin’ huge before you can blink, honest. Catch their CD release show tonight at Warehouse Live

Speaking of people w/good, cool, new things out, local do-anything troubadour Arthur Yoria is also playing tonight, over at Rudyard’s, and he’s got a brand new album out, 281 (reviewed ably here by our good pal David Cobb). I haven’t listened to the whole thing yet, but I enjoyed the experiment in listener-influenced songwriting he did over on his Myspace page for this album (as well as the fruits of it), so it’s gonna be good. Plus, he’s playing with Tody Castillo, whose upcoming album is one of the things I’m most looking forward to about 2009. (Seriously.)

Those are my top two places to be this evening, but there’s plenty more — The Goods are playing at Notsuoh (with Jacob Meador, Winter Wallace, & Female Demand, btw), and they’re always cool, straight-up, indie-ish rock, local reggae legends D.R.U.M. are at the Last Concert Cafe, Thee Armada are doing their post-emo rock thing (and ignore the haters, please; it’s good) out in the ‘burbs at Javajazz, and The Delta Spirit are up at Walter’s. Folks, your plate is full. Enjoy…
