Update: Women (Tonight!) + American Fangs (3/22!) + thelastplaceyoulook (3/27!) + More [3/18/2009 05:10:00 PM]:
The site-watchers out there (yeah, I know there're a few of you) may've already noticed, but just in case, we've got a new batch of reviews up on this here site, and we're pretty darn proud of 'em...

First and foremost, yours truly reviewed the debut self-titled full-length from Canadians Women, who happen to be playing tonight (Wed., March 18th) up at Rudyard's, alongside headliners(?) Crystal Stilts and opener Chase Hamblin. I went into the disc not expecting a whole heck of a lot, honestly, but it surprised me with its intricate twisty/turniness, alternately crusty and nimble guitar-work, and overall bad-trip feel -- if their live show sounds anything like the recorded output, tonight promises to be bizarrely, head-scratchingly good. (Read the full review here.)

On top of that, I've got reviews up of two releases by local H-town folk that both came out of left field and knocked me the hell down, namely American Fangs' self-titled EP and longtime scene-dwellers thelastplaceyoulook's latest, See the Light Inside You. I'd been interested in both bands in the past, but I hadn't yet caught enough of AF to make a judgement, and what I'd heard from TLPYL previously was decent but not great. Forget that, though; both releases are fucking incredible, just jaw-droppingly, car stereo-bogartingly awesome. The former sound like they could give the Foo Fighters some tips on the best way to rock out, while the latter strip the watered-down post-emo sound back to its hearts-and-distortion roots. I can't stop listening to either one, honest. (Full reviews here and here.)

If you feel like checking out the Fangs or thelastplaceyoulook, btw, they're both playing in town soon -- American Fangs will be at Rocbar on March 22nd, and the lastplaceyoulook are headlining a big show at Warehouse Live on March 27th, and if you miss one or both of those, the bands are slated to play the Free Press Houston Westheimer Block Party on 3/28, too. I'm currently frantically attempting to schedule my Block Party day so I can check 'em both out...

More reviews than just those three, of course -- new stuff from Rahway and Made in Mexico, the Post-Asiatic Lost War Dream Music comp, & more. Here's the full list:

Reviews: Women; American Fangs; thelastplaceyoulook; Post-Asiatic Lost War Dream Music; Made in Mexico; Rahway; Miss Autopsy; & The Reel Banditos.

Enjoy the rest of the week, eh?
