Can It Be? Super Happy Fun Land Lives Again…

I know there’ve been a few false starts, but this time all the paperwork’s supposedly in order, so hopefully this is the real deal. First got the word from Omar over at Free Press Houston, and the place’s Website seems to confirm it: artspace/venue/random cool/quirky place Super Happy Fun Land has lurched back to life at its “new” location in the warehouses downtown (3801 Polk, to be exact).

They’re reportedly open as of last night, but the official Re-opening Party is slated for Sat., March 7th, and cool folks Giant Battle Monster, Abigail und Hansel, Muzak John, Chin Xaou Ti, & Dark Surf (with others possibly waiting in the wings) will be on hand to celebrate. Beyond Saturday, their schedule’s filling up quick, with good people like Treasure Mammal, The Wild Moccasins, & Desmond Zavala playing in the coming weeks. I’ll get ’em on the SCR calendar asap, I swear.

This reopening is good, good, good news, because Houston’s been feeling like a barren wasteland of late when it comes to the mid-sized venues, particularly those catering to bands who don’t fit any particular scene or ‘hood; SHFL’s always been the very necessary odd nut in the party mix, and I’m damn glad to see ’em back.
