FEATURES (October 2006):
The Thermals feature pic
In a different world, not necessarily a just one but at least a more functional one, this would be a review of the new Thermals album, which I believe is called The Body, The Blood, The Machine. (Research is not my strong point.) But to the best of my knowledge, the review copy that I'm supposed to review is languishing in the international mails, somewhere between Houston and New Zealand... Del the Funky Homosapien feature pic
Popular rap music these days is full of artists that glorify their street lifestyle, sport diamonds in their teeth, and wear bulletproof vests. They also drive around in bomb-proof cars with hydros and sing about drugs, sex, and crime. There are still some rappers, however, that take a more low-key approach and seem to enjoy the process of producing and recording a bit more than they do playing the thug-life role. One such artist is Del the Funky Homosapien... [more] || [Patrick Graham] || [10/05/06]

OK Go feature pic
It's true that, on the face of it, there are many reasons to dismiss OK Go out of hand like a Click Five that doesn't even have the excuse of having been prefabricated. Their initial claim to fame was the "We Will Rock You"-like stomper "Get Over It," so tailor-made to arena sporting events that it found its way onto Madden NFL 2003. And they wear shirts and ties (and sometimes vests and blazers) and have, let's be honest about it, a super-dreamy frontman in lead singer and guitarist Damian Kulash... LIVE REVIEWS (October 2006):
Deafening feature pic
In the end, it felt more like we were witnessing a social experiment of some kind, albeit from the inside. We'd gone to see Kings Of Leon and the Stills downtown at the usually-very-comfortable Meridian, and worked our way through security, surprised to see so many people coming out to a show on a Tuesday night. I figured it was just a sold-out show, although given the bands that was in itself kind of strange. We Houstonians ain't always the hippest lot, particularly en masse... Sinews feature pic
I really went to see the JonBenet, in deference to the miserable spectacle that "your liberal media" has made of a pathetic pervert in the not-too-distant past while ignoring the sickening horror of civil war in Iraq and the fact that our beloved New Orleans is, for all intents and purposes, still under water metaphorically if not in reality. The Bush mouthpiece in charge of rebuilding New Orleans says the levees are "back to pre-Katrina and getting better," by the way... [more] || [Andrew Perkins] || [10/05/06]
