[UPDATED!] Giveaway Time: Paste Untapped Houston, This Saturday

houston-untappedUPDATE: Nope, it didn’t take long; we have our winner for the Untapped tickets. Thanks to everybody who threw their hands up in the air and said “ooh, ooh, me!” Better luck next time, y’all…

Alright, people — there’re some great, great shows happening this weekend, but the one at the top of the list for Saturday, November 16th absolutely has to be the Paste Untapped Houston mini-festival that’ll be going on down at Discovery Green from 3PM to 10PM.

As you can maybe guess from the name of the festival, this isn’t just about the music — the tagline “Indie Music & Beer” says it all. The idea is to merge some awesome music with some awesome beers, with bands/beers from both Houston and elsewhere, and while I can’t speak for the beers (not really my thing, although I root for Saint Arnold & Karbach like any good hometown boy should), the lineup is freaking stellar.

The headliners are on the surprising side, honestly; for some reason, I’d thought The Walkmen had broken up a while ago now, but I’m glad to see I was incorrect. It’s great, because they’re a damn fine band — apparently I need to do some catching up, but some of their older stuff, like “We’ve Been Had,” still lives on my iPhone.

Plus, there’s rough-edged indie-roots-rockers Heartless Bastards, who are excellent themselves, Big Black Delta, who I’ve yet to hear, and Austin rock troubadour Walker Lukens.

And then, of course, there’s a full pile of supremely talented local folks, namely the always-always-awesome psych-soul outfit {The Tontons}, gentle-hearted indie-pop/rock band {The Wild Moccasins}, and gorgeously soulful rocksteady/reggae band {The Suffers}. All three are bands I dearly freaking love, and I’m psyched as hell to see them on this bill, not to mention getting attention from folks like Paste (which is also a very cool publication).

Best of all, courtesy of the also-always-awesome Mark C. Austin, we here at SCR have a pair of tickets to give away for Untapped Houston. If you would like to grab ’em, do one of these three things:

  • Email us at “contests” at “spacecityrock dot com”, with the Subject line “Beer good; music better”. (And no, don’t worry, you don’t have to agree with the sentiment.)
  • Comment on this here post on our Facebook page.
  • Reply to this here tweet on our Twitter feed.

That’s all there is to it. The first person who responds in one of those three ways is the one who wins; otherwise, you’ll have to pony up $25 to see the show, or $34 for the concert and the beer. Good luck!
