Yr. Weekend, Pt. 2: Knights of the Fire Kingdom + Something Wicked + Bummerfest 2 + Something Fierce + More

Trying something a little novel tonight, namely posting about the shows this Saturday, October 27th, before, um, Saturday, October 27th. And if anything, there’s more going on tomorrow than there is tonight, and a lot of it’s flat-out awesome. Away we go:

Electric Attitude/Knights of the Fire Kingdom/Second Lovers/Mikey & The Drags (as The Mummies)/Purple @ Fitzgerald’s (free!)
Oh, yes. A very cool bunch of bands are playing tomorrow at Fitzgerald’s“Long Live The Dead” show — it’s seriously a lineup of bands I’ve either seen once and need to see again or desperately need to see for the first time.

First and foremost, {Knights of the Fire Kingdom} are freaking great, I swear; I caught them opening for {The Tontons} last month, and they were a fireball of straight-up, raw-throated rawk fury, like nothing I’ve seen/heard since Drive Like Jehu or Rocket From The Crypt. I’ve got their one super-limited-edition 7″, but I need more, dammit.

Then there’s {Second Lovers}, that band of downcast, murky, melancholy roots-popsters who came out with the truly excellent Wishers, Dreamers & Liars earlier this year — been wanting to see those folks — plus Mikey & The Drags, about whom I’ve heard great things, & cool electro-funk guys {Electric Attitude}, who are a hell of a lot of fun to see/hear. Get on over there.

Something Wicked, featuring Kaskade, Nero (DJ set), Flux Pavilion, Zedd, Danny Avila, Deorro, Feature Cuts, Jack Beats, Killsonik, Le Castle Vania, Michael Myers, Modestep, Tritonal, Tydi, W&W, Zomboy, Alex C, Andrew Parsons, Buda Love with Filthpusha, GRRRL Parts, Jasmine Rose, Jeff Chen, Randall Jones, Sinik, Surain, Tager N Funk, TDBZ, & Vance Lawrence @ Sam Houston Race Park (2PM-12AM)
Posted about this in a bit more length earlier tonight; like I said there, it’s a little on the pricey side (at least for me), but damn, with a lineup like that, it sure seems worth it…

Bummerfest 2, featuring Video, Secret Prostitutes, Noguey, Brain Attack, Animal Hair (tape release), Forced Fem, & The Vipers @ Walter’s ($8)
And speaking of festivals/mini-festivals, there’s also this cool-sounding one, Bummerfest 2, over at Walter’s — plenty of raw, messy punk noise going on, although I dunno some of the bands playing at all. {The Secret Prostitutes} are cool, though, as are {The Vipërs}, and for some reason, I really like the band name Animal Hair, even though I can’t find jack online about the band.

Day of The Dead Rockstar 2012 Opening, featuring Something Fierce @ Cactus Music (6-9PM)
A little earlier in the day, head over to Cactus Music to celebrate the opening of artist Carlos Hernandez‘s Day of the Dead Rock Stars: Till Death Do Us Part exhibit in the Record Ranch Gallery attached to the store itself. Hernandez’s screenprints are extremely cool, the Gallery’s a cool thing to check out in general, and on top of all that, badass pop-punk heroes {Something Fierce} will be playing for the festivities, as well.

I know I’ve talked about the damn band over and over and over again on this here site, but honestly, they’re one of the best I’ve ever seen/heard, from any city. There are damn few punk bands out there that you can truly point to and say, “look, they’re getting better with each and every record,” but this trio is one of ’em. I dunno when they’ll be playing, exactly, but the thing runs from 6-9PM, so you’d better be safe than sorry and just go for the whole thing, right?

The 3rd Annual Galveston Island Zombie Crawl, featuring Come See My Dead Person (CD release) @ Saengerfest Park
Last, but definitely not least, there’s the 3rd Annual Galveston Island Zombie Crawl, which will lurch its way from The Granite Room (6PM at 201 26th St.) over to The Strand, ending up in Saengerfest Park, where those awesomely strange folks in {Come See My Dead Person} will be serenading everybody in attendance, walking dead & living alike.

Oh, CSMDP will also be releasing their brand-new album, which is very good news; go, moan, shamble, and then jerkily rock the hell out.
