Holy Hell Yes: Something Fierce Debuts New Song on Altpress (Then Plays Show, Then Goes On Tour)

Oh, man. Steven Garcia, frontman/guitarist of the always-always-awesome pop-punk throwback outfit {Something Fierce}, had leaked a snippet of this our way a short while back but had sworn me to secrecy about it ’til the full thing came out, and I’ve been practically fit to burst since, I swear…

Thankfully now, there it is: Something Fierce’s brand-new track, “Warlords Of Information,” debuted yesterday over on the Altpress.com site. And from where I sit, at least, it’s even better than the little bit I’d been able to hear previously.

The band’s heart is still firmly in the realm of retro-ified pop-punk and power-pop, but there’s a surprisingly modern, early-’00s vibe to the song, too, which has me thinking of Superchunk, of all things — it may be just me, sure, but I hear a seriously Mac McCaughan thing going on with Garcia’s vocals. “Warlords Of Information” isn’t going to jump and punch you in the face like the band did with “Teenage Ruins” and “Come For The Bastards,” but it’s insistent and addictive and smart like the best damn songs Paul Weller ever wrote, with that added hint of indie-rock for extra-special goodness.

The song’s from the band’s forthcoming split-10″ with Occult Detective Club, out 8/26 on Dirtnap Records. They’ll be playing the official release show for the 10″ on August 26th, naturally, over at Mango’s, with both the aforementioned Occult Detective Club and Mikey & The Drags in attendance.

After that, the two bands cruise out west to San Diego for Awesome Fest (which is apparently sold out already; sorry…), then they’ll be bumming around the West Coast for a while, heading on up to Vancouver before veering southeastward again to get on home. Here’s the full list of tour dates:
