Yr. Weekend, Pt. 3: FOLXMAS + Rock the Shelter + Benefit For Jared + More

And now, it’s Sunday, December 18th, and what with some folks (like, erm, me) being off work, there’s still lots of stuff going on. First up, though, I wanted to mention the Anti-Christ Mass XIV show, which had been scheduled for yesterday at Mango’s, the same day as the Punxmas 2011 fest. Apparently Mango’s got double-booked for the night, and the demonic metal got dropped by the wayside…sorry, y’all.

Now, as for what’s on today:

FOLXMAS!, featuring The Taxpayers, Jessie Williams, Sticky Bandits, Costumes, Silly Billy Lafayette, Days N’ Daze, Low Down Rag Revue, Radio Flyer, Say Girl Say, Dead Rabbits, The Sidewalk Slammers, Adam & the Ancient Gods, Marissa, & Kim Champion @ Vinyl Junkie (6PM; $5/$2 w/donation of non-perishable food items or unopened child’s toy)
Good cause + good bands — what else could you want? This is over at the Vinyl Junkie storefront east of downtown (which I still need to visit), and I think it’s being organized by those crazy Days N’ Daze kids, and they’ve pulled together a bunch of neat, neat musicians, including Irish folk-punks {The Dead Rabbits}, self-proclaimed “deathgrass” band {The Sidewalk Slammers}, folkie Kim Champion, and the aforementioned organizers Days N’ Daze, plus Portlanders The Taxpayers and Phoenix band Jessie Williams & the Boozehounds.

Of course, the music’s only half of the deal; the cover’s $5 or $2 with a food or toy donation, and there’ll be a “vegan/omnivore” potluck, too, so you don’t even have to run out for dinner. Get on over there this evening, buy some cool vinyl, donate food to the donate, and rock out for social justice & whatnot.

Rock the Shelter Toy Drive, featuring Blaggards, Harbor Light Choir, Dog Party Band, & Whiskey Brisket @ The Continental Club (12-6PM)
Yep, another benefit-type thing today, this time the Rock the Shelter drive over at The Continental Club, organized by awesome Celtic rockers the {Blaggards} (who incidentally just got back home from their second-ever tour of Ireland) to help out The Salvation Army Family Residence.

To get in, bring an unwrapped kids’ toy or pick something from the wish list the band’s posted over here. Go help out somebody less fortunate for the holidays…

Benefit for Jared, featuring Fuska, Always Guilty, Oscuridad Social, Miss Melane, & Tomorrow Never Came @ Dan Electro’s Guitar Bar ($6; 4-10PM)
And yet another benefit — definitely a day for that sort of thing, apparently. This one’s up at Dan Electro’s Guitar Bar, and it’s a benefit for Jared, who works at the House of Blues. I’m afraid I don’t know any details about the show beyond what’s on the Dan Electro’s site, but hey, the bands playing are cool, especially ska/punk gangs {Fuska} and {Always Guilty}.

Runners-Up:
2011 Texas Buzz Music Awards, featuring Nothing More, I.D.R., & Potbelly @ The Scout Bar (Clear Lake)
Danny B. Harvey/Hotrod Hillbillies/13 Black Coffins @ The Continental Club
DJ Black Slacks @ Cactus Music (2-5PM)
