Yr. Weekend, Pt. 2: Lords of the Universe + Illegal Wiretaps + Bang Bangz + Featherface + Chimaira + More
Coming into Saturday, October 29th, and it’s even more packed-tightly than Friday evening was. Plenty, plenty, plenty going on, not even counting all the haunted houses & parties & whatever.
Already talked some about {Come See My Dead Person}‘s Halloween Murder Masquerade over here, and it’s still well, well worth checking out (sorry, all the tickets are gone, I’m afraid). Head on down to Montrose, then, and catch local supergroup/Black Sabbath tribute band Lords of the Universe at Mango’s, along with weird, wild, tribal rockers {Indian Jewelry} and full-on, snarling punks {Weird Party}; it promises to be pretty badass.
A little ways up the road at Rudyard’s, there’s another good one, with touring act Pure X and local dudes {Devil Killing Moth} and {The Illegal Wiretaps} — I desperately need to hear more of both, and (cringe) the Wiretaps were kind enough to send their new EP my way, but I haven’t been able to crack it open yet. Apologies, y’all…
There’s a cool one at El Pueblito Patio, of all places — I didn’t know they had bands, honestly — with damn good rapper {iLL LiaD} and favorite newcomers {Bang Bangz}. Speaking of somewhat odd-yet-cool deals, the Houston House of Creeps has apparently been reopened (or moved, or something), and they’ve got what they’re calling the Creeper Halloween Party of All Parties, with badass psych-pop guys {Featherface}, post-grunge dudes {Rivers}, newbies {New York City Queens}, and thought-they-were-dead pop-punk-ska band O’Doyle Rules. Remember, house party rules apply.
Heading back up towards downtown, The Mink‘s got a promising-sounding Halloween shindig going on, with The Electro-Magnetics, garage-y punks {The Mahas}, and decidedly “different” spaghetti-Western rockers {The Tyburn Jig}. Then Notsuoh has those wild-ass {Giant Battle Monster} guys, plus, need-to-hear-’em new band {Harold Borup}.
Oh, and I can’t forget Fitzgerald’s, which is continuing its stellar week with a set by cool Ohio metal band Chimaira, or the 9th Annual Ziegenbock Music Festival over at Sam Houston Race Park, which’ll include both the much-buzzed-about (and rightly so) {Robert Ellis} & supremely talented country-rockers the {Folk Family Revival}.
