Yr. Weekend, Pt. 2: #HelpAmy + Active Child (Rev’d!) + The Dodos + Andre Williams + /Crustaceans\ + More

As hinted at yesterday, there’s a veritable crapload of stuff going on tonight, Saturday, September 3rd. There’s so much I’m honestly having a hard time even talking about all of it.

I’ve got to mention the #HelpAmy Charity Concert going on tonight at the Reserve Supply Company on Washington — remember the Gallapalooza thing for Warehouse Live employee Amy Marie Shields? Well, according to friend/fundraiser Mark C. Austin, her condition worsened, and they had to go ahead & do the gall bladder surgery she needed much sooner than anticipated.

Naturally, she still has to pay for it, so some good-hearted people are once again playing music to raise money for the cause — {Benjamin Wesley}, {Robert Ellis}, Ben Godfrey of {listenlisten}, & {Tyagaraja} are all four playing. And, um, it’s already started (at 1PM) and goes on ’til 4PM, so get on over there asap, okay? It’s a $10 donation to get in, but more’s obviously better…

This evening, then, Fitzgerald’s has a great one-two punch, with excellent indie-folk-rockers The Dodos on one floor (accompanied by The Luyas, who I’m not quite as keen on, but eh), and then awesome, electronics-heavy baroque pop act Active Child on the other. Got a review of AC’s first full-length, You Are All I See, up over here.

And hey, the latter’s not only playing with Com Truise, but also with locals {Chin Xaou Ti Won} and {Tax the Wolf} side project {Bang Bangz}, so that’s no bad thing.

In Midtown, The Continental Club‘s got a stellar lineup, anchored on one end by longtime H-town bluesman {Little Joe Washington} & dirty-old-man crooner Andre Williams — who is absolutely badass and will steal your woman if you’re not careful — at the other.

On the more oddball side, head up to Notsuoh to check out /Crustaceans\, alongside {Chairs} and newcomers(?) Tom Gun; you can also zip across Downtown to catch {Yello Echo} at The Press Box — they come highly recommended.

Tom Gun are also playing Rudyard’s tonight, opening for the excellent {Art Institute}, {The Escatones}, and {Infinite Apaches}, the latter of which I want to see based on their name alone… The Mink has a great one, too, with punks {The Energy} and Vivian Pikkles & The Sweethearts Über Alles opening for White Mystery, about whom I’ve heard really good things…

Lastly, you can always head a bit southwards — ear-destroying metal heroes DevilDriver and Skeletonwitch are at The Scout Bar in Clear Lake, and oddball soul dudes {Mantis} are playing the BrewTopia festival at Moody Gardens down in Galveston.

There’s more, but I’ve gotta run; full list, right here:
