Houston’s Own Otenki Plays Billboard Music Awards?

Found out some cool news today that Houston’s own Otenki is one step away from playing the 2011 Billboard Music Awards with the likes of Rihanna, Black Eyed Peas, Lady Antebellum and more.

As part of Billboard’s Battle of the Bands they beat out bands from all over the country to be one of six remaining finalists and are headed to Las Vegas to perform an industry showcase, emceed by none other than Mark McGrath. (Did y’all know he used to be in a band? I always thought he was the Celebrity Apprentice guy.)

The results of that judges panel along with the online views of their videos will determine who will perform at the Billboard Music Awards. You know, I’m not a big fan of their pop-infused Warp Tour sound, but I still think it’s cool anytime a Houston band is making waves on an national level, and with some local help maybe they’ll go all the way. Right?
