The Moody Blues Do It For the Kids (in Conroe)

I’ll be brutally honest on this one: I am not a fan of the Moody Blues. Sorry, but I’m just not; they were one of those bands I got sonically bludgeoned with as a kid, every time I got in the car with my dad to go to Boy Scout meetings or soccer practice or on cross-country trips or wherever, and just thinking about “Nights in White Satin” or “Your Wildest Dreams” makes me twitch and want to punch things.

That said, the band is doing a very cool thing in advance of their show this coming Friday, April 29th, out at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion: they’re working with music charity Ear Candy for an instrument drive benefiting kids at Washington Junior High in Conroe.

The idea is for folks to donate “slightly used” instruments, which are then given to kids who can’t afford them on their own, in an effort to encourage children to play & love music, and hey, I’m all over that. Anything that gets kids interested in music is an awesome, worthwhile thing, in my book.

Here’s where & when you can donate, should you be so inclined:

    Donation Sites and Times

    1. The Woodlands Central Fire Station, 9951 Grogan’s Mill Road, The Woodlands, TX 77380
    2. The Woodlands Fire Station #5, 10100 Branch Crossing Drive, The Woodlands, TX 77382
    3. The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion Box Office, 2005 Lake Robbins Drive, The Woodlands, TX 77380 (Mon.-Fri. from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and until 8:30 p.m. the night of the concert)

Fans of the Moody Blues who don’t already have tickets to the show can also do a buy-one-get-one-free thing if they donate an instrument at the Pavilion Box Office, and the band’s doing some kind of VIP package auction on the Ear Candy to support the charity & the instrument drive — check that out over here.
