New Summerfest Bands Revealed

In case you hadn’t seen it already, today brought some news on the Free Press Summerfest front: the {Free Press Houston} crew announced four new artists for this year’s ‘fest, namely OutKast‘s Big Boi, cool Eastern European folk-rock outfit Beirut, SFers Girls, and (hell, yeah) influential post-punks Killing Joke.

All of which is very cool, in my book — I’m a fan of Killing Joke, in particular — although there’s a downside to it, which is that apparently MF Doom has been dropped from the previously-announced lineup. Damn. Andrew over at {29-95.com}‘s got the scoop, namely that the ‘fest organizers were afraid Doom might not bother to show up and would send a stand-in “Doomposter” in his place. Eh; probably for the best.

In also-cool news, passes for the ‘fest will go on sale this next week at Cactus, with other locations to follow.

Oh, and if you feel inclined to help out with Summerfest, the FPHers now have a handy-dandy spot on their Website where you can volunteer. No guarantees that they’ll be able to use you, but hey…
