Yr, Weekend (In Brief): Featherface + Ladysmith Black Mambazo + Progressive Collective + Freezerfest 4 + “When We Ruled H-Town” + More

Don’t have a lot of time to go into the details, unfortunately, but there’s plenty of cool stuff to do this weekend, should you be out & about in the freezing cold winds/rain/possible snow. Yours truly will be, um, a little out of the area for the time being (quite possibly some place warmer), but hey…

A few high points… On Thursday, if you hit the Free Energy show at Fitz, definitely show up early to catch excellently strange local boys {Featherface}; the lineup at the Sing Your Life show sounds pretty damn good, too, and I’ve got a soft spot for Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin.

For Friday, well, I’d dearly love to see Ladysmith Black Mambazo, but I doubt there’re even any tickets left; metalheads need to head south to Clear Lake to see Ill Nino, & definitely check out Yann Tiersen, who you might know from the Amèlie soundtrack.

Saturday’s a busy one — there’s the previously-posted-about Progressive Colective showcase, the Mango’s show with Darwin’s Finches & {The Busy Kids}, the Walk This Way rap showcase at Super Happy Fun Land, {The Tyburn Jig} playing over at The Mink, the Rory Miggins Memorial Irish Stew Cook-off, with {Blaggards} & {The Dead Rabbits} (both of whom are cool), and the aptly-named Freezerfest 4 deal, which includes awesome rock dudes {American Fangs}.

Oh, and that night’s also the When We Ruled H-Town show/movie preview, with a ton of cool bands & other stuff — I’m hoping to be able to post more about that soon. And last but not least, um, Dennis Quaid‘s playing a benefit out in The Woodlands. (No, seriously.)
