The Eastern Sea Goes Viral to Announce Its New Album

It’s fairly obvious (I think, anyway) that most of our Texas-based-music love is directed right here at home in H-town, but hey, it’s the new millennium, and the whole Austin-vs.-Houston thing was pretty stupid to begin with anyway. So I’ve got no problem at all in admitting that yep, we do indeed love-love-love at least a select handful of bands playing around Austin these days.

And first and foremost on that list (for me, that is, and for everybody if there was any justice in the Universe) is the quirky, arty, smart as hell, and astoundingly captivating crew called The Eastern Sea. I really, truly cannot rave enough about these folks — they’re one of those few bands that I attempt to force on anybody I know who likes music even remotely. They’re that good, sharp and melodic and sweet-hearted and melancholy all at the same time.

Happily, they’ve got a new album due out this coming spring, entitled Plague, and to celebrate/blast word of its coming out to the world, the Sea folks have put together a slew of neat little videos to promote the thing. Like, say, this one:

I can’t be positive, but I think they were all filmed at various places in & around Berlin, Germany — the last time we chatted with the Sea frontman/resident genius Matt Hines, he mentioned that he was headed to that particular city for a trip this time last year, and going by the accents & whatnot, well…that’s my bet.

If you dig the band, help out their viral effort — share this video (or any others you run across online), “like” it on Facebook or Digg or whatever, and get the word out.

UPDATE: Dammit, I knew I was forgetting something; right after today’s viral-promo burst, the band itself will be in town this coming Thurs., December 16th, playing at The Mink with local indie-pop guys {Searching for Signal}. Trust me on this: you really ought to check these guys out.
