This one’s the label of now-defunct hip-hop group Studemont Project, and while I’m still pissed at ‘em for taking my money & never sending me the damn SP CD I ordered waaaay back when, I have to give ‘em credit for putting out the first EP (and first full-length, too?) by The Tontons, one of my favorite bands in town.
Haven’t heard much about this label lately, though, so they could be toast for all I know…

[...] When you’re done over here, btw, make sure to go and read fellow SCR writer Daniel Yuan‘s own impassioned, quasi-heatstroked take on the events of 6/4-6/5, as well. It’s right over here… [...]
I’m not sure that ACL has changed to the degree and in the way that you describe, or that the same thing could happen to FPSF. It’s true that the balance of local to national acts has shifted some, but not to the extent that FPSF would have to in order to get anywhere near what ACL is now. ACL was a bigger festival right from the start.
FPSF also has a much wider variety of music- ACL has never really programmed any significant amount of punk, metal or hip-hop, to say nothing of experimental music. Unless the Free Press changes its approach to the types of music it’s interested in- which ACL really hasn’t much, it’s just gotten bigger- that’s going to limit its growth, fortunately for Houston.
