Tonight, Real Quickly: Lance Higdon + Alkari + The Eastern Sea + Muhammad Ali + War Master + Weird Al + More

Argh. Been fighting account-suspension/Wordpress issues and dealing w/general family stuff the past couple of days, so I’m sad to report that I have totally dropped the ball on writing up this weekend’s shows. Crap, crap, crap. So here we are on Saturday, July 17th, and I’m stuck once again, late as hell to blather about what’s going on…

That doesn’t mean you’ve missed the boat, mind you — there’s plenty of good shit happening tonight, and you’ve still got a good chance of catching it if you head for the door right damn now. Here’s what I would go see, were I you, in quasi-order by what I like best on down:

Lance Higdon’s Senior Recital, featuring Tambersauro, Golden Cities, Wall With One Side, Holy Ghost Machine Gun, Higdon/Pearson Duo, Lance & The Pants, & Whatabreaker @ The Exoskeleton (2808 Milam; 7-9:30PM, free, but donations appreciated)
    Deep Ella (CD release)/the last place you look/The 71?s (CD release)/Alkari (DVD release)/The Vehement Burn @ Fitzgerald’s
    The Eastern Sea/Searching for Signal @ Mango’s
Lisa Frank/Muhammad Ali/Eets Feats/Cop Warmth @ Super Happy Fun Land
Roller Derby Afterparty, featuring Roky Moon & BOLT @ The Brewery Tap (12AM)
    Hod/Gravehill/Cardiac Arrest/War Master/Birth A.D./P.L.F. @ Walter’s
The Invincible Czars/Come See My Dead Person @ Rudyard’s
Weird Al Yankovic @ Verizon Wireless Theater
Sideshow Tramps/Chase Hamblin @ The Warsaw
    Make Do and Mend/Heartsounds/All At Sea/Fingers Crossed @ The Mink (9PM; $7/$10)
The Toadies/Quiet Company/Dead Country @ House of Blues

There you go. Get on out there…

Thanks for putting this up. Better late than never! Between the 5 bands, over 500 people showed up for the Deep Ella CD release show at Fitzgerald’s. It was something special. – Jason, ALKARI

Sorry, man — I wish I could’ve been there for that… Figured I wasn’t going to get a chance to talk w/Lance again before he left town for Atlanta. :^(
