Hometown Boy Makes Good: Houston Flick "Walking Distance" Premieres at Dallas Intl Film Fest [4/08/2010 04:56:00 PM]:
Ah, this one does my soul good. I've known Mel House for what, looking back, sure seems to be a long damn time now, from waaaay back in his days playing with Inbred Whiteboy, and he was also one of the first seriously consistent writers we had here at SCR (I still miss being able to pass off the hardcore stuff to him, even now), on top of being an all-round cool guy; take all that to mean that, yeah, I'm pretty biased.

Since his guitar-playing days (okay, even during those days, somewhat), Mel's been focusing squarely on his filmmaking career, with his Upstart Filmworks outfit putting out some very cool indie horror films set in and around our little city here and cranking out a video or too, to boot. He's been pegged as one of an up-and-coming bunch of Texas indie horror guys, getting glowing writeups all over the place, and due in large part to the fact that he apparently never sleeps, things just seem to be moving up & up for him.

Now, though, Mel's got a bit of even bigger news than the usual: his latest film, which he both wrote and directed, I believe, a freaky (going by the trailers, at least) flick called Walking Distance, will be premiering next Thursday, April 15th up at the Dallas International Film Festival. Which, needless to say, is a pretty big damn deal.

Folks in Dallas -- and those who're able to make the drive up, obviously -- check it out if you can and support a hometown boy, eh? You can see the trailer for Walking Distance up over here on Dread Central, if you're interested/intrigued.

Big, big, big kudos to Mel for this win; have a blast at the Fest, man...
