Yr Weekend, Pt. 2: Benefit at The Mink + Peanut Butter Wolf + Ragged Hearts + Chase Hamblin + More [12/12/2009 06:05:00 PM]:
Piecemealing it out this weekend, yep...more to come for tomorrow, but here's a quick look at tonight:

A Big Upstairs/ Downstairs Benefit Show, featuring Smoky Mountain, Lisa's Sons, Satin Hooks, Jacob Calle, The Caprolites, Massive Improv, Winter Wallace, Ghost Mountain, Limb, Female Demand, Muhammidali, Davement (mem. of Young Mammals), & Fat Tony @ The Mink (7PM; $9/$7)
A good, good cause, even as benefits like this go -- apparently Larry Mendoza, a friend of organizer Jacob Calle's recently lost everything he owned in an apartment fire, which sucks royally, esp. at the holidays. Go help the guy out and enjoy a lineup of some of the baddest-ass bands in town right now (Muhammadai, Ghost Mountain, Fat Tony, Female Demand, Lisa's Sons, looking at y'all, in particular). And yes, Roky Moon & Bolt and Fucking Thief are no longer playing, but FD and The Caprolites are, so I'm not too broken up about it... Time slots for the bands are up here.

Peanut Butter Wolf/Ceeplus Bad Knives/Dayta @ Numbers
Whoa. Color me well & truly torn -- SF DJ Peanut Butter Wolf is probably solely responsible (well, okay, him and The X-ecutioners) for the point in my life when I realized that DJs could actually make honest-to-God "new" music. Seriously, My Vinyl Weighs A Ton is still a landmark album, to me.

Chase Hamblin/Ragged Hearts/Davie Graves @ Mango's
A bit of an odd bill, putting Chase Hamblin's sweet-voiced paisley pop-rock alongside the Ragged Hearts melancholy roots-country-rock (don't let the tats & spiked hair fool you), but hey, they're both great separately, so this is definitely worth checking out.

Runners-Up:
Alejandro Escovedo @ ListeningRoom (NiaMoves)
Springfield Riots/The Factory Party/Dan Castillo @ Avant Garden
Nitzer Ebb/TENSE/Vertigo Blue @ The Meridian
Gorilla Productions Lone Star Hip Hop Invasion, featuring Glenn J, Dynamite, Simeado, The Untouchables, J.Jacca, RPS Family, Yung Brotha, Hit Squad Ent, Strait Gravy Records, Big Shang, The Delegates, Record Section Ent, Yung Saint and Ace, Young Soulja, Live From The Third World, Vengeance Enterprises, Testimony, T-Lady, HIStory, PID Entertainment, Diezel Black, J.Gatz Entertainment, Mr. Young Dee, V Squad, Street Grindaz, Durdy Facez, Mic Skills, Sixx & Young Fatal, Yung Dola & Get Money Click, Govament Issue, Real Recognize Real, Blue Chip Entertainment, Str8 Ridas, Money Side Click, Young Kenny G, Jay Young, BO$$ Click, PC, KD, Mykey Niso, Ruda World, GCM, The Black Rose, S.M.A.S.H. Brothers, Money Flaco, South West Kingz, Undisputed, Money bags, Spliff Starr, & Fresh Clientell @ Fitzgerald's (8PM; $10)
