Guitars (Finally) Have Their Official CD Release, This Afternoon at Cactus

Yep, it’s true — after what seems like quite a while, local garage-rock(-ish) supergroup Guitars is finally officially releasing their debut full-length, White Night White Night, this afternoon around 3PM or so (I’ve seen a couple of different times so far) up at Cactus Music. Not sure just how it’ll go, but I think it’s a safe bet that it won’t be an acoustic show. And as always with these Cactus things, it’s totally damn free.

The album itself been a bit of a grower for me, honestly; I went in having no clue what to expect, and came out with a feeling of stunned bewilderment. I’d been thinking, “hey, punkish garage-rock, right?”, but what I got was more Velvet Underground than Thee Headcoatees. Which is a very cool thing, in my book. Think The Duchess and the Duke, think VU, think Lyres, and yeah, maybe you’ll be somewhere near. Somnolent, bluesy, low-key retro-garage that makes you want to either lay back and contemplate your wreck of a life or just end it all, whichever.

Anyway, you can check out the full review here — just got it up on the site. Have fun…
