Step Up -- The H-Town Scene Needs You! [10/02/2007 11:18:00 AM]:
Don't worry, no long-term commitment or anything -- I know how much people hate that crap. Just wanted to mention two little areas where good local scenester folks have asked for help recently & see if anybody's down:

  • First off, the ever-awesome Steven G. of punk heroes Something Fierce has sent out a call for current info on the state of Houston's punk (I think?) scene. He's compiling a scene report for Maximum Rock'N'Roll (which, sad to say, I didn't realize was still kicking, what with the Great Punk Zine/Mag Die-Off of recent years), as it's apparently been many moons since anybody did one.

So, if you want your band included, let him know what's been going on -- recent/upcoming releases, looming tours, and hell, I don't know what the fuck else. E-mail him at "somethingfierce" at "billybob dot com" with your info.

  • Second, John over at cool, relatively-new H-town blog Houston Redux -- whose mission, by the by, is to post live recordings of bands/people who played Helltown back in the day -- has posted a plea for decent-sounding (i.e., recorded from a board, not using a microcassette recorder or something) recordings of local bands.

In particular, he's looking for folks like Buddha on the Moon, Schrasj, "90s-era" Fatal Flying Guilloteens, Charalambides, Ash Castles on the Ghost Coast, or Lucky Motors. All of whom, I should note, are/were badass bands. If you've got recordings of any of 'em, definitely let him know -- "houstonredux" at "gmail dot com".
